The Healthy Zone School Program has done so much for us in our 3 years at Coppell High School. Where they really stepped up was allowing us flexibility during the Pandemic. We used some of our funding to help purchase food for some of our families in need. Everyone wants to help but The Cooper Institute and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and the Healthy Zone School Program let us reach out directly with the assistance needed. Thank you. Read more

It's Seed Day in the Garden! Volunteers and community members help our students plant their garden full of delicious food to eat during the spring and early summer. Science class is held outside all day! Students get their hands dirty while learning about life cycles, migration, composting, water collection, herbs, pollinators, and much more. It is definitely a seeds in the ground, STEAM in the garden, festival kind of day! Read more

On the 100th day of school, Abbett Elementary in Garland ISD reviewed the importance of GO foods and physical activity! Kimball Elementary in Mesquite ISD loves to offer healthy snack alternatives on 'typically unhealthy' snack days (Halloween, etc). During December, our school had a Polar Express day where students wear PJs and rotate to all teachers and have PE themed activities. So this year for polar express day we offered Cherry Jubilee and Apple Pie smoothies to all students. Our student leadership team delivered the smoothies and they were a hit!!! Read more

PM Akin Elementary PTA had their spring carnival this past week and Healthy Zone had a table for families to sample carrots and humus. It was a hit! We also put together an Easter basket with healthy Easter treat ideas and all the ingredients to make them. The basket was available at the silent auction. Read more

This year we tried something new. We opted for field day yoga to wind down and fruit tasting in place of snowcones. These were BIG hits with our students, parents, and teachers. The fruit was delicious and the kids enjoyed trying something new.

We implemented Tasty Tuesday earlier this year as a student led addition to our morning announcements. Our student leaders have been sharing healthy recipes and ideas on our Tuesday announcements. A few weeks ago, one of our student leaders, Lizzy Smyder decided that we should have students filming themselves creating or making healthy snacks and meals at home. So, we sent out permission slips and instructions about how to create these videos to be used during Tuesday morning announcements.
